BBL 2019 Match Prediction: Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder

December 17

The Gabba, Brisbane

Big Bash League 2019-20 opener will see the strugglers from Big Bash 2018-19 take on each other on Tuesday. Brisbane Heat, who finished 5th in BBL 2018-19, will be up against Sydney Thunder, who finished 6th. Heat would like to add to their Big Bash League 2012-13 title winner while Sydney Thunder would like to add to their tally from BBL 2015-16.

Brisbane Heat’s performance in Big Bash League:

After a meagre season in  BBL 2018-19, where they won just 6 of their 14 matches, Brisbane Heat would be keen to leave the mark early in the tournament. They have made some key changes in the squad for BBL 2019-20.

They have some of the world’s best stars in their camp in form of Chris Lynn, AB de Villiers, Joe Burns, and Matt Renshaw. Ben Cutting is a key all-rounder while Tom Banton is expected to keep the wicket. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Ben Laughlin, James Pattinson, Mitchell Swepson are likely to lead Brisbane Heat’s bowling unit.

Matt Renshaw and Tom Banton showed their intent before BBL with thumping centuries in Queensland’s Grade cricket (T20) a few days ago.

Sydney Thunder’s performance in Big Bash League:

Sydney Thunder also had a poor BBL 2018-19. They could manage to win just six out of fourteen matches but have made some changes in their squad to make amends. Callum Ferguson will lead Sydney Thunder.

Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales will be the key batsmen while Chris Green, Chris Morris and Daniel Sams are the key all-rounders. Jay Lanton is most likely to handle the Thunders’ wicket keeping duties. Nathan McAndrew, Gurinder Sandhu, Chris Tremain and Jonathan Cook are the key bowlers of Sydney Thunder.

Chris Green has seen his stocks rise greatly in the last few years while playing domestic cricket.
