BBL 2019 Match Prediction: Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers

December 18

Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney

BBL 2018-19 semi-finalists Sydney Sixers will welcome the most successful team in Big Bash League history Perth Scorchers in the 2nd match of the BBL 2019-20 on Wednesday.

Sydney Sixers performance in Big Bash League:

Sydney Sixers reached the knockout phase for the fifth time in eight editions in BBL 2018-19 but they fell narrowly short after coming up against an inspired Melbourne Renegades side that would go on and win the tournament.

The Sixers squad is arguably the most settled in the entire competition coming into BBL 2019-20 as the only players to depart are England’s Joe Denly and a handful of fringe players that hardly featured last year.

Pace bowler Jackson Bird arrives from the Melbourne Stars and will be a welcome addition to the bowling attack while they have also signed Aussie skipper Steve Smith but he is unlikely to feature until late in the tournament once his commitments with the national team have ended. Moises Henriques will lead the side instead.

England duo James Vince and Tom Curran have rejoined the club while they will be without Josh Hazelwood and Nathan Lyon until the current Test series with New Zealand finishes.

Perth Scorchers performance in Big Bash League:

Mitch Marsh has recovered from his fractured wrist and will lead Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash 2019-20. Jhye Richardson is all but back to his best with the ball and all-rounders Ashton Turner and Ashton Agar will be pivotal in their respective roles.

New signing Liam Livingstone will be responsible for the quick start along with wicket keeper Josh Inglis. Meanwhile, newcomers Chris Jordan and Fawad Ahmed will lead the Perth’s pace assault. Perth will again have the option of playing two spinners while the emergence of Cameron Green will be a fascinating subplot, even if the 20-year-old will be restricted from bowling.

Cameron Green has been diagnosed with a stress fracture, so he won’t take any part with the ball in this tournament but we certainly still see a big role for him. He’s been excellent domestically for WA in Shield and one-day cricket and hoping he can bring that form into the Big Bash as well.
