Big Bash League Predictions: Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers

January 19, 2020, Aurora Stadium, Launceston

Struggling Hobart Hurricanes will be welcoming Adelaide Strikers to the Aurora Stadium in the 43rd match of the Big Bash League 2019-20.

It hasn’t been the best of seasons for the Hobart Hurricanes. After a decent start, there’s barely anything that’s gone their way. They lost three straight games before the washout in the last game against Sydney Sixers. With seven points from 10 games, Hobart Hurricanes are second from the bottom and need to win all their games to stand a chance to qualify for the semi-finals. It’s their batting has been blowing hot and cold while the bowling hasn’t clicked and haven’t done too well.

Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers had started the tournament really well. After a washout to start the season, they won three games in a row. However, they lost three games on the bounce but two of them were last over finishes. They have bounced back in the last three games. They have registered a couple of comprehensive wins in the last few games and they are back in the mix for the top four.

Hobart Hurricanes performance in Big Bash League:

D’Arcy Short’s void at the top of the order hasn’t really been too good for Hobart Hurricanes. They’ve missed their talisman as there hasn’t been anyone who has stepped up and taken responsibility. Matthew Wade has blown hot and cold already in the three games he’s played. The likes of Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott have been pretty inconsistent.

Their striker-rates and average, both aren’t too impressive. Meanwhile, the biggest disappointment of the season has been David Miller. The attacking South African left-hander just has not been able to fire. He has a mere 91 runs at an average of 13.00.

George Bailey has been decent in the middle. He has made 126 runs at an average of 25.20 and has a strike-rate of 135.48.

With the ball, Qais Ahmad is leading the wicket charts for the Hurricanes and has taken 11 wickets.

Scott Boland has bowled well too. He has picked up eight wickets from just five games at an average of 16.75. The likes of Clive Rose and Nathan Ellis haven’t been taking wickets regularly and it has put pressure on the other bowlers.

Adelaide Strikers performance in Big Bash League:

No batsman has dominated the run charts for the Adelaide Strikers. A couple of players have amassed more than 300 runs. Jake Weatherald and Jonathan Wells are those players. They have scored 332 and 306 runs respectively and have good strike-rates as well.

Alex Carey who is in India has also scored 266 runs but won’t join the squad for a couple of more games. Philip Salt was excellent in the last game as he scored an unbeaten 67 to help the team chase down 101 easily.

Travis Head hasn’t scored runs. He has just 30 runs from two innings and the Strikers will be hoping he returns to form quickly.

Rashid Khan has been entertaining with both bat and ball. He’s played some quickfire and useful cameos lower down the order and is the highest wicket-taker. He’s picked up 16 wickets and has a strike-rate of 13.6 with the ball.

Peter Siddle has done well too and has taken 11 wickets. Liam O Connor won the man of the match in the last game for his 3/30 while the likes of Michael Neser and Wes Agar have blown hot and cold.
