Big Bash League Predictions: Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder

January 20, 2020, Perth Stadium, Perth

Perth Scorchers will be looking to break their losing streak when they host Sydney Thunder in the 46th match of Big Bash League 2019-20 on Monday.

Bowlers produced a splendid effort to help Sydney Thunder register a narrow four-run win over rivals Sydney Sixers via DLS method in the last game. Captain Callum Ferguson will be hoping that the side can continue their decent form in the next couple of matches.

On the other hand, Perth Scorchers will need to deliver their best cricket in this home fixture. The side will rue the fact that they should have won their previous game against Melbourne Stars, a defeat that saw them stay fifth with 10 points to their name.

Perth Scorchers performance in Big Bash League:

The equation is quite simple for Scorchers as they will need to win their remaining three matches in order to keep their playoff hopes alive in the competition. Skipper Mitchell Marsh will need to lead from the front and make a notable contribution in this game.

In the previous game, Jhye Richardson, Matthew Kelly and Chris Jordan delivered tidy bowling performances to see Scorchers restrict Stars to a modest score of 141 runs in their 20 overs. Medium-pacer Matthew Kelly was the standout bowler for Perth Scorchers and claimed figures of 3 for 27 in his four overs.

Chasing 142 runs to win, openers Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone failed to capitalize on their good starts. Wicket-keeper batsman Inglis threw away his wicket for 12 whereas Livingstone did so for 18.

Cameron Bancroft, too, couldn’t steer the team home and was dismissed for 32, at a strike rate of less than 90.

Captain Mitchell Marsh failed to get a score in the previous game. Despite a failure against Melbourne Stars, Marsh is currently leading the batting charts for the side in this year’s competition. The all-rounder has accumulated 365 runs in 11 innings at an average of 40.56 with two half-centuries to his name.

Sydney Thunder performance in Big Bash League:

With a close win over rivals Sixers, Thunder have climbed to fourth place in the league with 11 points to their name.

Top-order trio of Alex Hales, Usman Khawaja and Captain Callum Ferguson have done consistently delivered scores for the side in this year’s competition. Khawaja and Ferguson once again chipped in with crucial scores to see Thunder sneak a close win. Callum Ferguson has led the way with the bat and is currently the franchise’s leading run-scorer with 310 runs in 11 innings at an average of 38.75 with three half-centuries to his name.

Alex Ross, Chris Morris and Daniel Sams will be given the task of producing quick runs at the back end of the innings.

The bowlers certainly played a huge role in helping Thunder overcome Sixers in a rain-curtailed game.

Chris Morris, Daniel Sams and Brendan Doggett put in clinical bowling performances to restrict Sixers to a below-par score. Left-arm pacer Daniel Sams continued his excellent form with the ball in hand. He was the standout bowler for the side and finished with figures of 3 for 14 in his three overs.
