MSL 2019-Tshwane Spartans vs Nelson Mandela Bay Giants

Tshwane Spartans will be looking to register their first win of the Mzansi Super League 2019 when they face Nelson Mandela Bay Giants on Wednesday.

While Giants defeated Jozi Stars in their opener by 24 runs, Spartans had to settle with 2 points after their game against Durban Heat was abandoned.

Tshwane Spartans performance in MSL t20:

The Spartans look to have a really well balanced side at their disposal but they will rely heavily on AB de Villiers as usual for some power hitting in the middle order and they will need the likes of Dean Elgar, Theunis de Bruyn and Heinrich Klaasen to score at a quicker rate than they are often accustomed to.

The bowling attack has an impressive look about it with Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, Roelof van der Merwe, Tom Curran and Waqar Salamkheil forming an outstanding unit that will cause high-quality batting line-ups plenty of problems.

A washed out game means Spartans are still confused about their winning combination just like the rest of us but they are likely to stick with the big guns.

Tom Curran was unavailable for the first game as he was in New Zealand playing for England. And though that series is over, this game might have come a bit too early for him.

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants performance in MSL t20:

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants are coming off an opening win against Jozi Stars on Sunday after posting a competitive 167/7 from their 20 overs, they bowled incredibly well to restrict the Stars to just 143/5 to win by 24 runs.

They had to rely heavily on their middle order guiding them to that total as Heino Kuhn and Farhaan Berhardien hit 47 and 48 respectively to ease them out of the difficulties they found themselves in at 48/4.

Many have been surprised at the inclusion of Ben Dunk who has struggled in this format for some time now while Jason Roy was out for a second-ball duck, so the top order will have to improve here, but they can rely on their underrated bowling attack led by Dala, Morris and Tahir to give them a chance of winning any game.

Despite a top order failure, Giants might stick to the same XI that guided them to victory in their opener.

Pitch and Weather prediction for today’s MSL t20 match

The weather forecast for this match is not very encouraging. Plenty of rain and thunderstorms have been forecast in Centurion over the next week including on match day. It looks like the Tshwane Spartans may be twiddling their thumbs enjoying the rain a bit longer.

The pitch at SuperSport Park is good for batting although the outfield is going to be slow owing to the rain.

Team winning the toss might look to bowl first.
