October 3, 2019,
Stade Pierre Mauroy, Lille
For all the fantasy football geeks out there, we share prediction tips of league matches that will give them a better shot at predicting and winning. Starting with EPL 2019.
Following losses in their opening group stage games, Chelsea and Lille face each other in the latter’s home as both of them try to get their European campaign back on track. While Chelsea have won 2 games since their defeat to Valencia, Lille have drawn 2 and won 1 of their 3 games since losing to Ajax.
Squads and Predicted Lineups:
Timothy Weah is the only injury concern for Lille while Gabriel and Tiago Djaló battle to partner former West Ham defender Jose Fonte at centre-back.
Lille are likely to stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation they used on the weekend.
Probable line-up: Mike Maignan; Domagoj Bradaric, Gabriel, José Fonte, Mehmet Zeki Çelik; Boubakary Soumaré, Benjamin André; Jonathan Bamba, Jonathan Ikoné, Luiz Araújo; Victor Osimhen.
Manager Frank Lampard said he is looking for improvement, tempo and concentration in Chelsea’s state of play, following their win last week.
N’Golo Kanté missed out against Brighton at the weekend because of injury but is expected to be back. With Mateo Kovacic also expected to return, Mason Mount should push forward into the attacking trio.
Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi are back from long-term injuries but aren’t expected to start on Wednesday. With Kurt Zouma an injury doubt, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori should be safe to start at the back for the away side.
Lampard is likely to use the 4-3-3 formation he used against Brighton in the English Premier League on the weekend.
Probable line-up: Kepa Arrizabalaga; César Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso; N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic; Willian, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham.
With this, we move on to predicting which team will today’s match?
1- Lille will be Chelsea’s 5th different French opponents in European competition. The Blues have won 5 and lost 6 of the 16 games, all in the Champions League, against French side.
2- Lille have only faced Manchester United in the Champions League, losing 3 and winning just 1 of the 6 games. However, Chelsea are vulnerable and it’s not really impossible to beat them.
3- Lille have failed to score in 5 of their last 6 games against English opponents in all competitions but given Chelsea’s fragile defence- they managed their first clean sheet under new manager Frank Lampard this weekend- Lille might be able to find the back of the net.
4- Lille have won just 1 of their last 4 games in all competitions and provide a perfect opportunity for Chelsea to get their campaign back on track, following a 1-0 loss to Valencia in the Champions League Opener.
5- Chelsea have won their last 2 games, but those games were against not so fancied opponents and came on the back of 2 defeats. However, Lille, who have lost 2 and drawn 2 of their 8 league games, should not really trouble Chelsea, who might struggle to go through the next round if they fail to win 3 points.
6- Lille are winless in 8 Champions League home matches since 2006 while Chelsea have lost their last 2 games this EPL 2019. They have never lost 3 in a row in the competition and it seems it would be Lille’s unwanted streak that would likely be stretched than Chelsea’s.
7- Chelsea have kept clean sheets in 7 of their last 12 away group games in Champions League, a run which saw them win 7 games. However, Lille must fancy themselves to breach the Blues’ defence.
