Today’s Football Match Prediction: Sheffield United vs Liverpool
September 28, 2019,
Bramall Lane, Sheffield
For all the fantasy football geeks out there, we share prediction tips of league matches that will give them a better shot at predicting and winning. Starting with the English Premier League 2019.
Liverpool travel to Bramall Lane to face newly promoted side Sheffield United on Saturday. Liverpool, along with Inter Milan, are the only sides in the top 5 European Leagues to have won all their league games so far and would like to extend their lead at the top of the table to 8 points, at least for a couple of hours.
However, it is not going to be easy against a stubborn Sheffield United side. The Blades have conceded just 6 goals in 6 games so far, the same as Manchester City and Manchester United. However, their problem has been up front as they have scored the fewest goals – just 7.
The Premier League leaders could be without 6 members of the 1st– team as injuries start to mount up, though Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are expected to be fit. Mane limped off with injury against Chelsea and with Champions League game in the midweek, Jurgen Klopp might have wished to rest him but injury to Divock Origi might force him to rethink his plans.
Calf and ankle problems mean Alisson, Xherdan Shaqiri and Nathaniel Clyne are also sidelined as Liverpool try to win their 16th straight Premier League game.
Until Jurgen Klopp decides to rotate the squad heavily, keeping in mind the Champions League game against Red Bull Salzburg, he is expected to follow the same formation 4-3-3 and name the same line-up which started against Chelsea.
Predicted line-up: Adrian; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil Van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum; Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino.
Sheffield United have enjoyed splendid start to their 2019/20 campaign, are on course to achieve their pre-season targets. They have given themselves a strong chance of surviving their first season back in the top-flight, with a number of impressive results, including a comeback draw at Chelsea and a 2-0 win at Everton.
There are far fewer fitness concerns for Sheffield manager Chris Wilder than Jurgen Klopp, with Kean Bryan the only player missing for them through injury. Striker Billy Sharp is available following his suspension for a red card versus Southampton in mid-September.
Sheffield are expected to stick to the 3-5-3 formation and the same starting XI which helped them stun Everton last week.
Predicted line-up: Dean Henderson; Chris Basham, John Egan, Jack O’Connell; George Baldock, Enda Stevens, Oliver Norwood, John Lundstram, John Fleck; Callum Robinson, Oliver McBurnie.
With this, we move on to predicting which team will today’s match?
1- Liverpool have scored 35 goals and conceded just 4 against the promoted sides in their last 12 Premier League matches. So expect another goal fest from the attacking trio of Mane, Salah and Firmino. However, Norwich City highlighted how Liverpool are yet to find their feet defensively and don’t be surprised if the Blades find the back of the net.
2- Bramall Lane is one of only 3 grounds where Liverpool have not won a league game despite playing 3 games at the venue. Nottingham Forest’s City Ground (5 matches) and Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road (1) are the 2 other grounds. However, given the kind of form Liverpool are in, this record looks unlikely not to be broken.
3- There’s no clear favourite based on the head to head record with both sides winning 2 games each and 2 ending in a draw.
4- Sheffield have not lost 3 consecutive league home games since Feb 2013, when in League 1. The last time it happened at Bramall Lane was in 1990 but it will take an uphill task to stop their fortress from being breached.
5- All 7 of Sheffield’s Premier League goals this season of EPL 2019 have been scored by different players, including 2 Own Goals. Given the tactics they rely on, they have played the most long balls so far, 8th player may well find his name on the sheet.
6- Since 2014-15 season, Sheffield manager Chris Wilder has won more English league games and points than any other manager in the top 4 tiers. He has won 125 games and earned 426 points. However, that will count for nothing against the Reds and a thumping defeat may be on card if they don’t focus on their defensive duties.
