India vs Sri Lanka: Today's 3rd T20I Match Prediction

After an easy 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I, India host their island neighbours in the 3rd and final T20 of the series on Friday in Pune.

India eased their way to a facile seven-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in Indore, after the first T20I in Guwahati was abandoned. Given a meagre 143 runs to chase down, the explosive Indian batting order made easy work of the target and got there with 15 balls to spare.

Courtesy the abandoned game in Guwahati, Sri Lanka now have to win the third and final T20I in Pune to equalize. India, on the other hand, will go all out for a win after the 1-0 lead they gained in Indore and will try to close the series out with a 2-0 scoreline to boost their confidence further for the World T20, and furthermore, cement their combinations.

India’s Performance in T20:

The much-anticipated return of Jasprit Bumrah unravelled at Indore as he bowled the very first over of the game. He looked slightly out of rhythm – he had an average speed of 136- as he started but grew in confidence.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan was sluggish on his return and ended up on almost run-a-ball 32. An inning that saw just 2 boundaries.

The 2nd T20I was almost a perfect game for India. Every bowler picked up wicket while every batsman, except Rishabh Pant who only faced 1 delivery, scored 30 or more.

Kuldeep Yadav continued his revival, picking up from where he left against West Indies. He picked up 2 wickets. However, Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler, picking up 3 wickets- all in 1 over.

India is unlikely to change the winning combination.

Sri Lanka’s Performance in T20:

Sri Lanka lost Isuru Udana, who Lasith Malinga called their main bowler, even before he could bowl with an injury. Udana might miss the final game.

6 out of the top 8 batsmen got into the double digits in the 2nd T20I. However, none of them could play a big inning and that’s what cost Sri Lanka as they could muster just 142 on a batting friendly pitch. That’s where they needed a cool and composed head like Angelo Mathews.

He may, however, be recalled for the final T20.

India vs Sri Lanka: Today's 2nd T20I Match Prediction

Rain and ground in Guwahati stole all the anticipation of India’s first game of the year and the imminent return of Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan in the squad.

However, the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, an opposition they fancy, especially in the shortest format of the game is virtually reduced to a 2-match series now which means the team that wins on Tuesday cannot lose the series. It means a lot to Sri Lanka, who have never beaten India in a bilateral series since India’s current captain Virat Kohli made his debut.

With T20 World Cup around the corner, the focus has shifted on the 20-over game and there are plenty of actions coming our way in the near future.

The same sides had locked horns in the only T20I game played at the venue so far with Rohit Sharma’s century taking India to 260. However, Sri Lanka must take respite from the fact Sharma is not there for the series.

India’s Performance in T20:

Deepak Chahar is not a part of the squad while Jasprit Bumrah has returned from injury. Hardik Pandya is still recovering which keeps Shivam Dubey still in the hunt. Mohammed Shami is also rested.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has been rested while Shikhar Dhawan returns for the 3-match series which might prove to be crucial for the left-hander. Rohit and KL Rahul were in great touch in the recently concluded T20 series against West Indies and that has sent Dhawan behind in the pecking order.

India are exploring spin options who can also contribute a bit with the bat. It might be a short-term plan due to the absence of Hardik Pandya but it might also be a long term thing in which case the series might prove to be a crucial one for Kuldeep Yadav. The Chinaman bowler had struggled in the last few months before his hat-trick against West Indies last month.

He was in the starting XI for the first T20I in Guwahati, a game that never happened, and will likely retain his place.

Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini and Jasprit Bumrah were poised to be the pacer which meant there was no place for Ravindra Jadeja in the team. However, Jadeja might walk back in.

Sri Lanka’s Performance in T20:

Veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews returns to the 16-man squad. Mathews, who has been plagued by injury concerns over the last few years, hasn’t played a T20I since August 2018. He was not scheduled to play a part in Guwahati either.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old pacer Kasun Rajitha replaces Nuwan Pradeep, who sustained an injury during practice. He was not named to play the first T20I and it might remain the same.

India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I Predicted line-up:

India

Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini.

Sri Lanka

Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera (wk), Oshada Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Lasith Malinga ©

Pitch Report for today's 2nd T20I

The wicket at the Holkar stadium usually favours the batsmen. With even bounce and short boundaries coming into play, batsmen tend to rule the roost.

The only T20I played at the venue saw the same teams locking horns, back in 2017.

The game saw India post their highest T20I score, and 3rd overall- 260/5. 63 boundaries were scored in that game.

Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav picked up 7 wickets.

India vs Sri Lanka: Today's match prediction

  1. India have never lost a bilateral series against Sri Lanka since Virat Kohli made his debut.
  2. Virat Kohli has scored half centuries against Sri Lanka in all 4 innings, all away from home.
  3. India have beaten Sri Lanka 11 times (out of 16) in T20Is and a 3-0 whitewash will make them most successful side against a single opposition- beating Pakistan’s 13-win record.
  4. Sri Lanka have lost 62 T20Is- joint most alongside West Indies.
  5. Jasprit Bumrah needs 2 wickets to be India’s top wicket taker in T20Is.
  6. Lasith Malinga averages 52.25 against India in white-ball cricket.
  7. Since 2016 T20 World Cup, India have the best batting average among all nations while Sri Lanka have the worst.
  8. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the joint-leading run getters in T20Is at the moment- 2663 runs. With Sharma rested, Kohli has a chance to take a huge lead.
  9. The last game at the venue between the sides saw 432 runs, 31 sixes and 15 wickets.

India vs Sri Lanka: Today's 1st T20I Match Prediction

After ending 2019 on a high, India begin 2020 with a 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, an opposition they fancy, especially in the shortest format of the game. With T20 World Cup around the corner, the focus has shifted on the 20-over game and there are plenty of actions coming our way in the near future.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have had mixed fortunes in T20Is recently. They whitewashed Pakistan in their own den with almost second-string side but were then thrashed 3-0, the same margin, by Australia two weeks later. Their preparation for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year continues with the brief three-match tour of India.

The series sees the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan while Rohit Sharma has been rested for India. Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews returns for Sri Lanka.

Deepak Chahar is not a part of the squad while Jasprit Bumrah has returned from injury. Hardik Pandya is still recovering which keeps Shivam Dubey still in the hunt. Mohammed Shami is also rested.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old pacer Kasun Rajitha replaces Nuwan Pradeep, who sustained an injury during practice.

The visitors might play the wrist spinning duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Lakshan Sandakan together despite the fact that the Indian batsmen are very good against spin.

India vs Sri Lanka, 1st T20I Predicted line-up:

India

Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini

Sri Lanka

Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Angelo Mathews, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kasun Rajitha, Lasith Malinga, Lakshan Sandakan, Isuru Udana

Pitch Report for today's 1st T20I:

There are chances of scattered rains in Guwahati on Sunday.

The Barsapara Cricket Stadium is known for hosting high-scoring games as the pitch is flat and the boundaries are not the biggest in the world.

Batting second is always an advantage in T20I cricket especially when you are playing on flat pitches and you don’t have a clear idea what the par score is, batting first.

With the rain forecasted as well, batting second becomes an obvious choice as the Duckworth-Lewis rule also makes it slightly easier for the chasing teams, in terms of how they need to go about their innings.
