Super Smash T20 Prediction: Central Stags vs Wellington Firebirds
December 27, 2019
Pukekura Park, New Plymouth
Super Smash 2019-20 table leaders Central Stags will welcome Wellington Firebirds in the 12th match of the tournament on Friday.
Central Stags are coming on the back of a 30-run defeat at the hands of Canterbury Kings and will be keen to return to the winning ways. The Stags currently have 10 points in 4 games with two wins and a no result.
Wellington Firebirds, on the other hand, will be hoping to avenge their 24-run loss suffered in the 6th match of the season. Firebirds, who have 8 points in 3 games with 2 wins, are currently third in the Super Smash 2019-20 points table. They are coming on the back of a thrilling 1 run win over Otago Volts.
Central Stags performance in Super Smash T20:
Central Stags failed to chase 164 against Canterbury Kings because of their poor batting order. No batsmen could score more than 22 with wicket keeper Dane Cleaver top scoring.
However, they would seek inspiration from their 24-run win over the Firebirds early in the tournament. Tom Bruce, who scored 54 runs off 34 balls in that match, will hope to play a similar inning.
Willem Ludick is expected to continue in his all-rounder role despite falling to make an impact in both departments against Canterbury Kings.
Ajaz Patel has picked up 3 wickets in each of the three innings the Stags have bowled in Super Smash 2019-20 so far. He will hope to continue his red hot form. Blair Tickner has picked 4 wickets in the games he has played so far and the Stags will hope for a similar performance from him.
Wellington Firebirds performance in Super Smash T20:
Both openers Devon Conway and Michael Pollard were in impressive form against Otago Volts. Conway scored 63* runs off 48 balls while Pollard was much quicker in his 70 runs off 40 balls inning.
All-rounder James Neesham was promoted to No 3 and the New Zealand hard hitter didn’t disappoint. He scored 47* runs off 32 balls helping the Firebirds put 182/1 total on scoreboard against the Volts.
Neesham also picked 2 wickets and gave 24 runs in his 3 overs against Otago Volts.
However, the Firebirds will hope for more from Logan van Beek who conceded 36 runs in his 4 overs against the Volts. Ollie Newton was impressive with his 4 overs 1 wicket and 18 runs spell and will hope to produce similar kind of magic against the Stags.
